Wearing red will earn you free bus travel after 4pm tomorrow

04 July 2016

Bus users wearing red tomorrow (Wednesday 6 July) will enjoy free travel from 4pm as First Cymru does its bit to support the Welsh national football team as they try and secure their place in the finals of Euro 2016.

As the level of national pride swells further, and people get behind the Welsh national football team, First Cymru drivers will swap their uniforms for national team football shirts or anything else red. Customers boarding buses in the Swansea Bay area will also be allowed to travel for free after 4pm if they’re wearing red clothes.

The historic match between Wales and Portugal will kick off at 8pm and to help people come together to watch it, the game will be shown on large screens at Singleton Park. People will be able to get there ahead of kick off using a variety of local bus services (notably services 2, 2A, 2B, 2C, 3, 3A, 4, 4A, 8, 10, 14, 20, 21, 21A, 21B and 37), while journeys back to the city centre will be provided by free-to-use shuttle buses, operated by First Cymru in partnership with the City and County of Swansea. The shuttles will run from 9.45pm until the last people have left the site.

First Cymru will also be hoping to generate more excitement around the match by running an on-the-spot customer giveaway on Wednesday 6 July. It will be giving away 25 football shirts to children travelling on the network during the day. To be in with a chance of winning, children will need to demonstrate the loudest dragon roar they can muster if they find one of staff handing out the shirts. The giveaway will take place from 3pm onwards in locations in and around Swansea.

Simon Cursio, General Manager for First Cymru, says: “This is an historic occasion. Our staff, our customers and pretty much the whole of Wales, are bursting with pride at the way the Welsh team have conducted themselves to date. For those able to go to Singleton Park to watch the match, it will be a very special moment. We’re proud to do our bit, providing the shuttle service post event. We want to help people get there too though, so we’re offering free travel to anyone heading that way, or travelling in and around Swansea Bay, who is wearing red after 4pm.

“We’re all willing the Welsh team on, all we need now is for them to perform as they have so far and win us a spot in the semi-finals.”
