Cardiff Bus offers free travel to Armed Forces personnel and veterans on Remembrance Sunday

06 November 2015

Cardiff Bus is offering free travel to those who have served in the armed forces to commemorate Remembrance Sunday.

Customers who are travelling on 8th November to special Remembrance services and are dressed in military uniform or can provide proof of serving in the forces will be allowed to travel for free (excluding Park & Ride).

Those with an All Wales Concessionary Travel Card will still need to validate this on the bus ticket machine.

The bus operator is running the free travel offer to honour and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by local servicemen and women.

Richard Davies, operations and commercial director at Cardiff Bus, said: “Many of our customers and staff have service personnel amongst their friends and family who will be travelling to various Remembrance events this Sunday, we are proud to be able to support them in this way.

“We wanted to show a small token of our gratitude for their years of service and play a part in remembering those who have been lost in action.”

Additionally, at 11am on Wednesday the 11th November, drivers will stop buses where appropriate and pause for 2 minutes to show their support for the national silence, in remembrance of those who lost their lives fighting for their country.

Richard added: “We have always supported the armed forces with different initiatives but this will be the first time that our drivers will stop the buses to observe the national silence as a mark of respect to those killled or injured in the defense of their country.

“Drivers across the whole of our network will be stopping for 2 minutes where safe to do so and normal service will resume after this.”

There are expected to be diversions in Penarth and Barry town centres due to Remembrance Sunday events, details of which will be made available on www.cardiffbus.com, by calling 02920666444 and on Cardiff Bus’ social media channels @CardiffBus.
