Stagecoach South Wales
Due to the closure of Hirwaun/Trewaun roundabout between 31st July and 20th August, there will be some changes to the following services.
Service 8 Cefn Rhigos (05:20am & 06:20am) from Aberdare:
- The above journeys will depart Aberdare earlier and will serve Penywaun.
- Buses will travel along the top of Penywaun (A4059) until the traffic lights, and then turn right and travel through Penywaun as if returning towards Aberdare. They will then turn left from the top of Penywaun back to Dawkins roundabout. Then they will divert via Llwydcoed (Croesbychan) to get to Maescynon (Hirwaun).
- Buses will then follow the road onto Harris Street, turn right onto Brecon Road, then turn right to go past the Clock and along the High Street and merge onto the Tramway and Cynon Terrace. They will then turn right at the end of Cynon Terrace onto Brecon Rd, go all the way along to The Lamb pub and resume normal route to Cefn Rhigos.
- The return journeys will follow the reverse of above.
Service 9 Aberdare to Penywaun (Monday to Saturday):
- Stagecoach will run a service from Aberdare to Penywaun, this will follow the normal route except it will travel along the top of Penywaun until the traffic lights, the buses will then turn right and travel through Penywaun back to Aberdare. This service will be operating every 40 minutes.
- There will be a shuttle bus between Trewaun and Penywaun Shops - Shuttle Bus Timetable
Service 9 on a Sunday will only run between Glynhafod and Hirwaun and will not continue to Merthyr.
Services 8 & 9 from Aberdare (Monday to Saturday)
- The above services will run every hour.
- These services will be diverting from the Cross Inn, Trecynon via Llwydcoed (Croesbychan) to get to Maescynon (Hirwaun).
- Buses will run to Hirwaun via Maescynon, they will then follow the road onto Harris Street, turn right onto Brecon Road. Then they will turn right to go past the Clock and along the High Street and merge onto the Tramway and Cynon Terrace. Buses will turn right at the end of Cynon Terrace onto Brecon Rd, go all the way along to The Lamb pub and resume normal route to either Glynneath, Merthyr Tydfil or Penderyn.
- The return journeys to Aberdare will follow the reverse of above.
Please note: Services 8 & 9 will not be able to stop at any bus stops listed below, if you are travelling to the bus stops mentioned, you will need to catch the 172 Service:

- Arthurs Place, Llwydcoed
- Shop Houses, Llwydcoed
- Bryn Moreia, Llwydcoed
- Miners Row, Llwydcoed
- St James' Church, Llwydcoed
