Disruptions

To accommodate the British FIM Speedway Grand Prix at the Principality Stadium on Saturday 21st September, there will be a partial city centre road closure from 3:00pm – 9:30pm. Please see below for details of road closures, service diversions and travel information during these times:

Cardiff Council

  • Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment.)
  • Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted.)
  • Saunders Road from its junction with St Mary Street.
  • Customhouse Street throughout its length (access to private car parks will be permitted).
  • Penarth Road from its junction with Saunders Road to the entrance leading to the rear of the Central Train Station.

The following roads will be closed in their entirety: High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road.

After the event, there may be a need to put a lane closure, or hold traffic on Cowbridge Road East/Castle Street adjacent to gate 1.

Additions: The Speedway Fanzone will take place outside City Hall in the Civic centre. Road closure to facilitate this is as follows: King Edward VII Ave from its junction with City Hall Rd to its junction with Boulevard de Nantes from 5am to 8pm.

Civic Centre: Access to the Civic Centre will be controlled, with access allowed only for limited commuter parking, loading and access to private car parks and where necessary event-day parking, Roads affected and need to be closed within this order include: King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road & Gorsedd Gardens Road.

 

 

Transport for Wales

Transport for Wales is advising all customers that trains in the Cardiff area are expected to be busy all day. Those travelling into the city to watch the match are advised to leave plenty of time for their journey.

Stagecoach South Wales

All Stagecoach buses will start & terminate at Greyfriars Road after 14:30 for the remainder of the day. 

Additional Diversions to Specific Services are as follows:

Service 122 will be diverted via Gabalfa Interchange & North Road after 14:30 and will not serve Cathedral Road.

Service 132 will not serve Cardiff Bay after 14:30.
