In this year's Rugby World Cup, Cardiff's Millennium Stadium will be hosting eight matches, including two quarter-finals in what is sure to be one of the biggest and most exciting sporting events of the year.

With the crowds expected to be extremely busy, advice is to plan your journeys in advance and book any travel early to avoid disappointment.

Arriva Trains Wales

The rail network is expected to be extremely busy over the Rugby World Cup as fans travel to the games to support their teams.

For safety reasons, there will be a post-match queuing system at Cardiff Central Station on the day. Please see the event day queuing guide here. Passengers are asked to familiarise themselves with the queuing system map before their return journey.

Cardiff Queen Street Station will be closing at the following times:

Saturday 17th October: 21:15. Due to the late kick off, match-goers are asked to return directly after the match to Cardiff Central Station.

Sunday 18th October: 14:30. Although there will be extra services added to enhance the usual Sunday timetable, fans are asked to check their journey plans and return in plenty of time to Cardiff Central.

Arriva Trains Wales will be adding extra capacity to their Cardiff services where possible however if you are planning to travel by train this weekend you may have to stand for some or all of your journey

Those attending the matches by rail are asked to take the earliest possible service into Cardiff especially those travelling from Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot, Bridgend, Pencoed, Llanharan, Pontyclun and Cwmbran, Pontypool and New Inn and Abergavenny.

Many of the matches will be played at host venues that are served by the Arriva Trains Wales network. Customers are advised to check your plans before you travel at www.journeycheck.com/arrivatrainswales and for live travel advice, you can follow Arriva Trains Wales on Twitter @ArrivaTW

Also, as trains and stations will be busy, customers are advised to buy their tickets in advance to avoid the queues.

If you are not going to the match, it is advised that you avoid travelling on the affected services if possible on these dates.

Cardiff Bus

Please note that the following diversions will apply to city centre bus routes/stops on:

Saturday 17th October from 16:00 until the end of service.
Sunday 18th October from 10:30 until 17:30:


The baycar (service 6) will start/end in Customhouse Street.

Services 8 & 9 will start and end in Canal Street. Journeys towards the bay will run via Penarth Road to Corporation Road. Buses will not serve Westgate Street, Tudor Street & Clare Road.

Services 9A, 13, 15, 17/18, 25/25A, 61, 62/63, 64/65, 66, 95/95A (towards Barry/Penarth) 96/96A & X91 will start/end Tudor Street.

Service 11 will start/end in Hayes Bridge Road. Journeys towards the city centre will run via Station Terrace, lower Churchill Way, Bute Terrace and Hayes Bridge Road. NOT serving Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road, Kingsway or Westgate Street.

Services 21/21A, 23/23A, 24/24A, 27, 28/28A/28B, 30, 51/53, 54 and 86 will start/end in Greyfriars Road.

Services 35/36, 38/38A, 44/45, 49/50, 52, 57/58, X59 P&R East & 95 (to Heath Hospital) will start/end in Churchill Way.

Services 92/93/94 on Saturday will start/end in Customhouse Street between 16:00 and 18:45. After 18:45, these services will start & end in Tudor Street.

On Sunday services 92 & 94 will start & end in Tudor Street.

Please note that cross city services will be split in the city centre.

Stagecoach Bus

Stagecoach buses will start and terminate at Greyfriars Road.

Route 124 on Saturday will operate via North Road to Greyfriars Road and will therefore not serve Cathedral Road.

Route 122 from 17:00 on Saturday and all day on Sunday will start & terminate on Cathedral Road near the Petrol Station.

These arrangements apply on Saturday and Sunday.
