Stagecoach in South Wales celebrate Captain Thomas Moore’s 100th birthday with a tribute to him, the NHS and key workers

30 April 2020

Stagecoach in South Wales has replaced its ‘not in service’ messages on the bus fleet in Merthyr Tydfil depot to read ‘Happy Birthday Captain Tom’ with the service number 100.

Captain Thomas Moore will celebrate his 100th birthday tomorrow on 30th April 2020 and has raised over £29m for the NHS. To further mark the occasion, three Stagecoach buses will drive to the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil at 8pm to join the nation clapping and proudly display the birthday message along with thank you messages for the NHS and key workers.

Stagecoach in South Wales has already changed the ‘not in service’ messages to the following:

  • Save lives
  • Stay at home
  • Only travel if your journey is essential
  • Thank you key workers
  • Thank you NHS

NHS staff can travel for free on all Stagecoach in South Wales services.

Nigel Winter, Managing Director of Stagecoach in South Wales said: “We want to congratulate Captain Tom on his outstanding fundraising for the NHS and we wish him a very happy 100th birthday. A huge thank you to all of the NHS, carers and key workers including our Stagecoach staff for the courageous work they do every day during the pandemic.”
