Traveline Cymru Shortlisted for Womenspire Award

18 March 2016

Traveline Cymru, the Welsh Governments public transport information service, has been shortlisted for the Womenspire public sector award.

The first Womenspire awards, run by Chwarae Teg, aims to celebrate the achievements of Welsh women from all backgrounds who are doing extraordinary things in all parts of their everyday lives.

Traveline Cymru is a Welsh business employing 35 people, 20 of whom are women, across a site in central Cardiff and a site in Penrhyndeudraeth, North Wales. The business was nominated due to its commitment to family friendly policies and processes, its programme of training and development and the investment it makes in its employees.

Jo Foxall, marketing manager of Traveline Cymru said:

“We are delighted to be shortlisted for a Womenspire award. As a business, we are committed to enabling and developing our people through training opportunities, process and flexible policies.

“The public transport sector is often dominated by male management, however, we are proud to be an organisation that employs such a high number of dedicated, bright, intelligent women. We strive to create an environment that enables all of our employees to thrive.

“We feel that in Wales, Chwarae Teg is an organisation that is dedicated to ensuring organisations implement policies, such as the ones we offer, that provide an environment where women are able to thrive. We hope to be an organisation that can be used as an example of best practice.”

Traveline Cymru currently have a number of female team members taking part in long term study, such as the CIM Digital Marketing qualification, the ILM Leadership qualification and NVQs in customer service.

Joy Kent, chief executive at Chwarae Teg, said:

“We believe that public services benefit from being designed and delivered by a gender balanced workforce that reflects the people they serve, so to hear that Traveline Cymru has gone from a workforce of predominately men, to one that is now more balanced, makes it a great candidate for the award.

“Additionally, Traveline Cymru displayed a strong commitment to helping staff members contribute fully to the workplace through its use of flexible and remote working policies. The judges were really happy to shortlist Traveline Cymru for the Public Sector Employer of the Year award.”

Other organisations shortlisted within the public sector category are South Wales Police, DVLA and Bangor University.

The winners of each of the Womenspire awards will be announced at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama on Thursday 14 April 2016 at a special ceremony attended by finalists and guests from across Wales.

Ms Foxall added:

“We hope that being shortlisted will raise the profile of Traveline Cymru as an organisation which is a desirable place for anyone to work. We’re looking forward to the awards and are keeping everything crossed that we are successful.”
