Newport Council

Travel Planning Awards Ceremony being held in Newport

10 October 2014

Newport City Council is hosting the second annual South East Wales Travel Planning Awards on Thursday 16th October.

Recognising best practice and excellence in travel planning, the awards will be presented by Councillor Ken Critchley, the council’s cabinet member for infrastructure, in the Civic Centre.

This free to attend event will feature a keynote address from Alex Veitch, chair of Act Travelwise. Rosie Sweetman, from Business in the Community, and Owen Jones, of Wales and West Housing Association, will talk about the Workplace Travel Challenge and how it has made a difference to their organisation.

The event will also include a series of training workshops which will provide valuable advice, tips and best practice on public transport, healthy commuting, monitoring a travel plan and car sharing.

Our team at Traveline Cymru will be attending the awards ceremony, discussing travelling by public transport and how businesses can benefit from using our journey planning services as part of their Travel Plans.

There will also be a number of other key exhibitors present, including Sustrans the UK leading sustainable transport charity and Carbon Heroes, who host the Welsh ShareCymru car share service. These exhibitors will be able to provide free literature and advice on the various services and support they offer to businesses in Wales.

Gold awards (for organisations that demonstrate innovation, enthusiasm, passion and on-going commitment) will be given to Bridgend College, Coleg y Cymoedd and PHS.

Silver awards (for organisations showing on-going commitment) will be given to Lloyds Banking Group; St Fagans National History Museum and Sustrans Cymru.

Bronze awards (for organisations that have completed a travel plan to an acceptable standard) will be given to: Melin Homes Limited; Newydd Housing Association and RCT Homes Group.
