Cardiff Half Marathon. Sunday 1st October 2017

Cardiff Bus diversions

The Cardiff Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 1st October.  The route of the course will involve road closures within the city centre and in surrounding including Grangetown, Cardiff Bay, Cogan, Cathays, Roath and Penylan. 

As result there following diversions and changes will apply to Cardiff Bus services on the day.

For much of the morning through services will be split at the city centre.

Buses to the East on routes 30, 52, 54, 57, 58, 61 (to/from Pengam Green), X45 to/from St. Mellons) and X59 will start and end at Newport Road/City Road between 0900-1300.

Journeys on route 6 (baycar) will be cancelled until 1300. 

Routes 8 & 9A will run in two separate sections from first bus until 15:00 – Cardiff Bay / Sports Village to/from City Centre and then Heath Hospital to/from City Centre.  Please also not the additional diversions to these routes:

Cardiff Bay / Sports Village to/from City Centre:  From first bus until approx. 1300 buses will operate from Cardiff Bay or Sports Village to/from Royal Hotel.  (See below for Heath Hospital – City Centre journeys that have been split). 

Routes 8 & 9A Heath Hospital to City Centre:  From first bus until 1200 buses will start and end in Churchill Way and furthermore from first bus until 1500 buses between the city centre and Gabalfa Interchange will operate via Park Place, Colum Road, North Road until 1030; then after 1030 operate via North Road to Gabalfa.  Also from first bus until 1500 buses from the hospital to the city centre will operate via Rhydhelig Avenue, Whitchurch Road, Crown Way and North Road.

Route 13 from first bus until 1114 buses to/from Drope will start and end in Canton (Wyndham Crescent). The 1135 from Drope will enter the city centre via Fitzhamon Embankment and Tudor Street, ending at St. David’s House not Westgate Street. 

Routes 17/18 from first bus until 0900 buses will start and end at St. David’s House, entering and leaving the city centre via Tudor Street not serving Westgate Street or Cardiff Bridge.  Then between 0900 and 1100 will start and end at Canton (Home Bargains) and not be able to serve the city centre.  Furthermore, between 1100 and 1200 buses will start and end at St. David’s House, entering and leaving the city centre via Tudor Street not serving Westgate Street or Cardiff Bridge.

Routes 21, 23, 24 (outbound), 25 (Inbound) & 27: From first bus until 1200 buses will start and end at Greyfriars Road. 

Route 28B from first bus to 1200 buses will start and end at Greyfriars Road.  Additionally, from first bus and 1430 buses will operate a different route between Rhydypenau Crossroads/Fidlas Road and the city.  Until 1030 buses will operate via Park Place, Colum Road, North Road, Caerphilly Road and Heathwood Road in both directions. From 1030 until 1430 buses will operate via Boulevard De Nantes, North Road, Caerphilly Road and Heathwood Road in both directions.

Route 30 from first bus until 1300 buses will start and end at Newport Road/ City Road.

The 1055 route 35 journey will start from Greyfriars Road and operate to Gabalfa via Park Place, Colum Road and North Road.  The 1155 journey will start from Greyfriars Road and operate to Gabalfa via North Road.  From first bus until 1030 buses between the city centre and Gabalfa will operate via Park Place, Colum Road and North Road.  Furthermore, from first bus until 1430 buses from Gabalfa will operate around Gabalfa Estate then via Whitchurch Road, Crown Way and North Road to the city centre with the 0916, 1016 & 1116 journeys ending at Greyfriars Road

Routes 44, 45, 49 & 50 from first bus until 0900 buses will start/end at Bute Terrace.  Between 0900 and 1300 buses will start/end at Newport Road/City Road not serving Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road, Kingsway, Westgate Street, Bute Terrace or Churchill Way.

Routes 52, 54, 57 & 58 from first bus until 0900 buses will start at Customhouse Street.  Between 0900 until 1300 buses will start/end at Newport Road/City Road not serving Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road, Kingsway, Westgate Street, Bute Terrace or Churchill Way. 

Furthermore, from 0900 until 1400 buses on routes 52, 57 and 58 will operate between the city centre and Penylan via Newport Road, Waterloo Road and Colchester Avenue in both directions not serving Albany Road or Richmond Road.  Buses on route 52 will operate via Cyncoed Road and not serve Ninian Road, Lake Road East’ Lakeside Drive or Celyn Avenue.

Route 61 will run in two separate sections – Pentrebane to City Centre and Pengam Green to City Centre between 0800 and 1300.  Please also not the additional diversions to these routes:

The 0813 departure to Pentrebane will start from Royal Hotel and leave the city centre via Tudor Street not serving Westgate Street or Cardiff Bridge.  From 0900 until 1100 buses will start and end at Canton (Home Bargains) and not be able to serve the city centre.  From 1100 until 1200 buses will start and end at St. David’s House, entering and leaving the city centre via Tudor Street not serving Westgate Street or Cardiff Bridge.

The 0814 departure to Pengam Green will start from Hayes Bridge Road.  Between 0900 until 1300 buses will start and end at Newport Road/City Road with no through working to Pentrebane.

Route 25 (Outbound) and 63 from first bus until 1200 buses will start/end at St. David’s House and enter/leave the city centre via Tudor Street not serving Westgate Street or Cardiff Bridge.

Route 64 the 1106 service will start from St. David’s House and enter/leave the city centre via Tudor Street not serving Westgate Street or Cardiff Bridge.

The 0850, 0920, 0950, 1020, 1050 and 1120 departures from Cardiff (Wood Street – St. David’s House) on routes 92 and 94 will operate from Wood Street as usual then operate via Havelock Street, lower Westgate Street, Tudor Street, Virgil Street, Cornwall Street, North Clive Street, Clive Street, Ferry Road, A4232, Leckwith Interchange, Llandough, Redlands Road, Foxglove Rise, Bramble Rise, Cowslip Drive and Pill Street not serving Penarth Road.  The 0939, 1009, 1039, 1109, 1139 departures from Penarth Town Centre will operate reverse of this route.

Route 96A from first bus until 1100 buses will start and end at Canton (Home Bagrains) and not be able to serve the city centre.  Between 1100 and 1200 buses will start and end at  Wood Street (St. David’s House – JB), entering and leaving the city via Tudor Street, not serving Westgate Street or Cardiff Bridge.

Route X45 will be split to run in two sections from first bus until 1300 - St. Mellons to / from City Centre and Ferry Road ASDA to / from City Centre.

Ferry Road ASDA to/from City Centre:  From first bus until approx. 1300 buses will operate to/from Royal Hotel.   For St. Mellons to/from City Centre buses will start and end at Newport Road/City Road with no through working to Ferry Road ASDA.

Route X59 from first bus until 1300 buses will start/end at Newport Road/City Road not serving Churchill Way.
