Royal Welsh Show 2014

Our Top Travel Tips for your Summer Journeys!

20 July 2015

The summer season is always a highlight on our calendar here at Traveline Cymru, as we get to head out to some of the country’s biggest events and help provide people with helpful transport information that they may need.

Our team are currently attending the annual Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells this week from Monday 20th to Thursday 23rd July! The Royal Welsh Show is an annual celebration of agriculture, showcasing the best of Welsh livestock and food and drink produced in Wales. There is a huge range to experience throughout the show, from forestry, horticulture, crafts and sports, with exhibitor stands, a food court and a 12 hour programme of exciting entertainment across each day.

We’ll be set up in the South Glamorgan Exhibition Hall, so do come along and say hello if you're passing by! We'll have lots of goodies on offer, as well as helpful public transport information and your chance to win an iPod Shuffle!

Got your tickets ready?

If you’re like us and making your way there this week, there are some great transport services available into the showground, even if you’re bringing your car along! There are Park & Ride as well as shuttle bus services available into the showground, all of which you can see information for here.

If you’re not sure where to park on the day, you can find more information on where to park and how to get into the showground by clicking here.

We had a great time at the show last year, and we’re hoping the sun is going to stay shining once again across the week!

No matter where your summer plans are taking you this year, it can be a great opportunity to make your journeys as sustainably as possible. Now the schools have broken up for summer, the roads are already becoming noticeably busier, so you might find hopping on the train will make for a less stressful journey – just sit back, relax and watch your surroundings go by; ideal for the start of your summer trip!

Our Top Tips

#1. Don’t have any plans for the summer? There’s always something exciting going on in Wales, so you’re sure to find something to do. If you need some inspiration, have a look on our events page to see what’s taking place!

#2. Once you know where you’re going, public transport can be a fantastic way to get there. Why not get a family train ticket and take the kids out for a day at the Caerphilly Big Cheese Festival this weekend? Stagecoach are offering a special family discount for families going to the festival, which you can see below!

#3. However, if you can’t be swayed from your car, or public transport is a difficult option for you, perhaps you can grab a group of friends and car-share your way to some of the food festivals taking place? Car sharing can be a great way to not only cut down on petrol costs between your friends (which your purses will thank you for later) but is also a much more environmentally friendly way of getting around. If you’re travelling on your own, Share Cymru offer a car-share service whereby you can register your one-off or regular journeys and to find others making the same trip as you; ideal for making new friends and lowering your carbon footprint at the same time.

We’re here to help you find the best transport routes for your summer journeys, wherever they may be. Let us know where you’re planning on spending your summer!
