6 Nations Championship 2024 

The 25th annual 6 Nations is here! Wales, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, and Italy will battle it out over 5 weeks of hotly contested matches in a bid to be crowned 2024 champions. 

On 6 Nations game days, a full city centre road closure will be in place ahead of and after the game for crowd safety.  

With tens of thousands expected to attend the games in Cardiff, public transport services will be busier than usual. During this time bus services will follow diversions and use different to normal stops. A queuing system will also be in place at Cardiff Central Station.

Travelling to the games? 

By bus 

If you’re travelling to the games by bus, please be aware that (for safety reasons) there will be a full city centre road closure in place. This means bus services will need to divert and use different stops.

By train 

Large events at the Principality Stadium mean tens of thousands of more customers will be travelling on rail services. All services to and from Cardiff on these days will be extremely busy and, often, standing room only.

Transport for Wales Rail 

Cardiff Queen Street

  • Saturday 16 March - Cardiff Queen Street will close at 14:45 except for accessible access and passengers that wish to travel to Cardiff Bay

Please use Cardiff Central station after this time where a post-event queue system will be in operation.

 

Adventure Travel  

16/03/2024

Services 304 and 305 will operate via Bute Street inbound terminating at North Church Street before using Callaghan Square to access Herbert Street/Tyndall Street as normal outbound.

304 will return to Custom House Street after the closure is lifted.

Service 320 will terminate at Sophia Gardens (Cathedral Road) before turning at the bottom of Lower Cathedral Road for outbound stops from Cathedral Road.

Service C1 (inbound towards Culverhouse Cross)will serve Churchill Way as normal and also call at Bute Terrace (for Customhouse Street), before diverting via Bute Street, Callaghan Square, Penarth Road, Clare Road, Clare Street and Lower Cathedral Road then returning to route at St. David’s Hospital.

Service C1 (outbound towards Pontprennau) will serve the same route but will not service St. Davids Hospital – it will operate via Neville Street instead.

Bus stops along Clare Road, Tudor Street, Wyndham Arcade & Bute Terrace will not be served
  • Buses from the city centre towards the Sports Village will run from Hayes Bridge Road to Penarth Road/Corporation Road/Clare Road junction via Callaghan Square and Penarth Road. Bus stops at Wood Street, Tudor Street and Clare Road will not be served.

9 to/from Heath Hospital *

Churchill Way

  • Buses from Heath Hospital towards the city centre will terminate at Churchill Way. For connecting buses to the Sports Village, please go to Hayes Bridge Road (stop JH) at the side of John Lewis. Bus stops along Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road, Kingsway, Westgate Street will not be served
  • Buses from the city centre towards Heath Hospital will start from Churchill Way and then follow normal route

  • The bus stop at Hayes Bridge Road will not be served by route 11
  • Buses on their inbound journeys will not call at bus stops at Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road, Kingsway or Hayes Bridge Road

* Lower St. Mary Street will remain closed after 21:00, therefore buses on services 9 (towards Heath Hospital), 11, 28, 30, 44, 45, 49, 50, 52, 57, 58 will follow their usual Saturday night diversions in the city centre from 21:00 to last bus.

The 30 services will operate via Dumfries Place to finish and start at Kingsway (opposite Friary Gardens/Hilton Hotel).

Bus stops on Kingsway, (o/s Hilton), Westgate Street, Customhouse Street and Lower Churchill Way will not be served

 

Stagecoach South Wales 

Wales Vs Italy Saturday 16 March All Day The 26, 86X, 124, 132, 136, T4 and X3 will start and finish at Greyfriars Road. The 122 will start and finish at Lower Cathedral Road. The 124 will run via Western Avenue to/from Greyfriars Road all day and will not serve between Llandaff and Castle Street.
