On the hunt for an Easter gift with more of a spring in its step? Look no further than some of the fantastic independent businesses on Wales’ high streets. From beautifully handmade chocolate eggs, to impressively intricate chocolate artisan designs, and carefully crafted hampers full of locally sourced goodies. It's all on your doorstep!

Heavenly, Llandeilo

Paul and Tracy Kindred opened Heavenly in the heart of Llandeilo nearly 14 years ago. Visitors to their shop can choose from a range luxurious chocolates handmade on the premises, or from a carefully chosen selection from some of the world’s best manufacturers.

Their beautifully ribboned, gold lined magnetic boxes are filled with a section of their famous Heavenly Chocolates, while their chocolate love hearts can be decorated with whatever design or text you please! A perfect personalised gift for a loved one this Easter.

If you’re feeling a little peckish whilst picking up your Easter gift, treat yourself to a scoop of their sumptuous ice cream made with Welsh organic milk and cream. With flavours including sticky toffee pudding, jaffa cake, and millionaire’s shortbread… you’ll be spoilt for choice!

 

Maisie’s Chocolate Shop, Llandudno

Opened in 2012, Maisie’s Chocolate Shop is a family run business located a short walk from Llandudno’s waterfront. Alongside their bestselling dark salty fudge Johnny Doodle bars, Maisie’s also serve some of the finest artisan chocolate from around Wales, UK, Holland & Belgium.

Take your pick from over 40 different chocolates including creamy truffles and divine bonbons to create your own selection box, a gift that your friends and family are sure to love. For an alternative Easter treat, their delectable range of real Dutch liquorice come in a range of novelty shapes and sizes.

Sarah Bunton’s Welsh Chocolate Shop, Aberystwyth

Sarah Bunton is an artisan chocolatier based at Devils Bridge in the Cambrian Mountains, Mid Wales. Her Welsh Chocolate Shop, located across the road from the Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway station, is one of the Devils Bridge’s most popular attractions.

Sarah and her team produce a stunning range of handcrafted filled chocolates and truffles, seasonal gifts, bars and novelty items. Many of these feature locally sourced Welsh specialities including Merlyn Liqueur and Welsh honey.

You can watch these award-winning creations being made through the purpose built window into Sarah’s Chocolate Shop, where you can also find your perfect Welsh Easter treat (and maybe a little something for yourself too from the adjoining takeaway kiosk!)

 

So Cocoa, Swansea

Tucked away in the corner of Dunns Lane, Mumbles, So Cocoa is the only independent chocolate shop in the Swansea area. Owner Lizzie Greenaway sources her gourmet chocolate from all around the UK, Europe and South America, and offers everything from quirky chocolate gifts to expertly handcrafted desserts.

What better gift for Easter than a personalised box of handmade chocolate delights. Choices include the stunning vanilla burst with cocoa nibs, a rose fondant cream, and the dark cherry kirsch… to name just a few! For the kids, how about a chocolate lion or tiger, or even some chocolate building block pieces?

With vegan, dairy free and gluten free options also available, So Cocoa is truly a highlight of this idyllic seaside town.

 

The Hours Cafe, Bookshop & Deli, Brecon

Wickedly Welsh, Pembrokeshire

This family run business is located just off the A40 into Haverfordwest, less than a minute from the County Showground at Withybush. Owners Karen and Mark, alongside their talented team, create many of their slightly eccentric and handcrafted chocolate gifts with Welsh and locally sourced ingredients.

Their Supersized Wicked Selections boast an indulgent 44 or 88 individual chocolates, a perfect gift of any chocoholic to share (or not!). For an alternative Easter treat, how about an Orange Marmalade or Pembrokeshire Sea Salt and Caramel bar to tickle your taste buds?

If you or the kids fancy yourself as the next Willy Wonka, get involved in one of Wickedly Welsh’s ‘Chocolate Demonstration Experiences’ from April 8th to 26th. Demonstrations run for 50 minutes and will give you a chance to have a  peek inside the factory doors!
